Anyone who is blind, or who has worked with the blind, knows how expensive our technology can be. This couldn't be more true with relation to braille displays. Even the cheapest costs at least $799, and it's already behind the newest in that line, at $899. This is the Orbit Reader 20 and 20+. Now, a student in India wants to change that by creating a display that is truly affordable (under $50)! Please pass this on, so that we can give him greater recognition within the blind community. Even if it costs a bit more than he initially suspected it would, there is no excuse for the $2,000 to $5,000 average price of such technology when cheaper alternatives can be designed! He is determined to bring this to market, so let's help him do it and show our appreciation for his hard work on this life-changing project!

Today on #twitch we look at the #accessibility of a newly released game, going by the rather interesting name of #southOfMidnight. I know very little about this #game other than it supposedly having some #blind specific #accessibility features, so let's see how I as a fully blind #gamer do in playing this narrative bit of folkloristic action. See you in an hour over at twitch.tv/zersiax #smallStreamer #goingLive #selfPromo

Hurrah! #blind #Depression

Oh and don't get me started on just how difficult it is to use the mac #Terminal, now you wouldn't use this to actually #code with, but sometimes its useful to know how to use... if you could easily navigate the damned thing, but no, Apple just has to make it the most terrible experience ever. I don't know how sighted people do it, because as a #blind person, I hate every second of it, and I really only use it to play muds via #tintin++ if I have no other options.

OK, so I’ve just started reading “The family across the street” by Nicole Troop, I know, I know, right now I’m mostly reading thrillers, but it’s because I love them, and I want to read everything on my list one by one :-) and I think this book is interesting, and it’s very well narrated. I will always say that, books are a wonderful relax after work, or after a long day, books are good for everything :-) #Blind #Reading #Audiobook #Books #Thrillers

@nixCraft - there is/may be a tiny use case for the "sidewalk ends" sign: a while ago I saw a video of VR glasses, or was it just glasses with a camera and a computer, that were designed as an aid for blind people: they would tell the user what was in front of them, for example if they needed a taxi, it would tell them if it was approaching, so they could rise a hand to stop it.

This "sidewalk ends" sign would be read by such glasses, and the user would be warned early.

Today, I have to decide if I want to send some #Poetry
to a specific outlet.

When I tried a few days ago, It required a blind author blocker - captcha.

Which means, as a blind author, I have to find a random person walking down the street to come in and lay the captcha game so I can submit the poetry.

Not sure how #Publishers think blind authors can successfully, independently, submit writing through #Blind Blocking #Captchas.

#Google Forms is the worst!

For all in the UK - please sign and share this letter set up by Connor Scott-Gardner to show your support for Braille transcription services run by RNIB which are being cut | “RNIB has scrapped its free personal braille transcription service, leaving blind people to cover the cost themselves.
