Hubzilla is really intriguing. What I have in mind is having an independent web-being, without dependence on an instance to host your data, but with the ability to connect with others.
A main use case I think of is the ability to join multiple closed separate communities with your own identity, like closed/secret groups in Facebook, which are a feature I really miss in Mastodon.

It's absolutely true what @daj says. His useful message included @bookstodon@a.gup.pe but it would not have been seen as he's not using a mastodon server and the gup.pe groups generally don't work beyond mastodon.
Using #FediGroups is more inclusive across the entire fediverse family.

We need to try and get more #book fans to follow @bookstodon on #fedigroups. The group @bookstodon on gup.pe generally only works with Mastodon. So many people on the wider Fediverse are missing out.

Here on #FediGroups you can create a group with added controls.
As a group owner you can require that users follow your group in order to be boosted.
Also:
You can optionally approve all followers to prevent spamming of the group
#Bookstodon is now live on #FediGroups.
Follow the account, and/or mention it to have your post boosted to all followers.
Being on FediGroups means we work with many different server types. Some servers can't follow @bookstodon@a.gup.pe
If anyone would like to translate to another language please get in touch.
We are keen to have a Spanish and French version too. Open to other suggestions.
All you need is the ability to edit one document, and speak the language well/as a native.

The #FediGroups platform works with all #Fediverse software, so there shouldn't be issues of not receiving group posts from members.
In addition to that, you have to follow the groups first before your post will be boosted. It will at least filter out potential spam from accounts who mass tag but are not actually group members.
Another feature is, if you want to share a post to the group, but you don't want it boosted, you can add a bang or exclamation mark, like so: !@group-name@example.com

I'm pleased to report that #FediGroups works with #Friendica instances too. We have tested this on 2023.12 and 2024-03-rc
Meaning that users across all these server types can receive boosted Group messages:
