A major privacy issue with Signal is its constant request for access to contacts. It might sound convenient, but this access increases the risk of accidentally choosing the wrong contact (such as The Atlantic journalist) when adding someone to a group or forwarding texts. We have been critical of this "we'll remind you later" pattern that Signal adopts when access to contacts is denied. An app "built for privacy" should respect its user's #privacy choices.
