On this day in history. The paddle steamer Maid of the Loch was launched on Loch Lomond 71 years ago today, on 5 March 1953, and regularly sailed on the loch until 1981. It is hoped to return her to service. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/lomond/maidoftheloch/index.html
Loch Lomond & the Trossachs, Balloch, Scotland.
My first time encountering gorse flowers. They are amazing -- they smell just like coconut or sun tan lotion!
Until yesterday, I'd never noticed this 1893 Arts and Crafts style villa beside Balloch Railway Station. As beautiful as it is, it does seem a little out of place in a Scottish town on the shores of Loch Lomond.

I was rather surprised to come across a pair of Mandarin ducks yesterday on Loch Lomond at Balloch Country Park. They're a bit shy, so the photograph isn't great, but you can still get an idea of quite how spectacularly colourful the males of this species are.
