Spending the day catching up on all the admin work I neglected while preparing for and recovering from yesterday's public papermaking event. Here's a very preliminary shot of one of the pieces we cast from the Houston Conwill sculpture. I had such a great team!

Sharing another of the cast paper relief sculptures I made using hardware my late father saved. I've been going through the jars & cans of things he stored in his basement workshop. One day we'll recycle some of these, but not today.

Something a little different for me. I found my grandmother's lace bobbins, then stored them away for years before I learned what they were. I've seen fascinating videos of people using them, but have never learned this skill, so I used them by casting them in handmade paper.

Site visit today to #CUNY York College, where next month I'll be working an art class to cast sections of this Houston Conwill sculpture ("Arc," 1986) in #handmadepaper. No one knows what it is, because there is no plaque or any kind of label. Even the guard in the nearby booth had no idea what it is, and directed me to "the art window" on the ground floor (which is actually the campus art gallery).
Excited to present a large selection of my cast paper sculptures at this exhibition, curated by my dear friend Vladimir Cybil Charlier, at the Garner Art Center in Garnerville, NY.

I started this painting a long while ago, but finally finished it recently! I adore the Sword in the Stone film - especially Archimedes. It was fun to try to capture his expression!

I typically use a jelly gouache set that dries out easily, so... I keep it that way! It's water based, so it's easy to reactivate with water. I usually use the set like a watercolour palette when it's dried like this, but it still works great as regular opaque gouache! (Esp with gesso underneath!)
Other than saying "Um" way too much, last night's artist talk went well.

My first render on handmade paper!
The idea was the discrepancy between computer generated images and real handmade paper as a juxtaposition.
(for those unfamiliar with the word juxtaposition the deifinition from Collins Dictionary: "The juxtaposition of two contrasting objects, images, or ideas is the fact that they are placed together or described together, so that the differences between them are emphasized.")
